Unique Opportunities
Nonprofit Board Experience Course
Imagine what you could learn sitting at a table with some of the most important leaders in the region's business community! That's what you can experience as a participant in the Nonprofit Board Experience. The goal of this two semester course (1 credit fall, 2 credits spring) is to provide students with the opportunity to gain exposure to the type of decisions made by nonprofit boards of directors. This involves membership on a board of directors as well as hands-on experience as a member of a subcommittee of the board. During the first semester, you will attend board meetings and become oriented to the organization. In the second semester, you'll serve on a sub-committee on a real project. Consult the course listings of your specific major for details and prerequisites and discuss your interest with your department chair.
Media Sales Field Experience
Whether selling advertising space on TV, radio, print, or online, media sales account executives must have in-depth knowledge of how to help clients maximize their media buys along with outstanding communication and negotiation skills. In this fast-paced industry, one of the best ways to learn is to observe a media sales expert in action. Through the Media Sales Field Experience, students in the Marketing or Marketing Communication/Advertising majors spend a semester shadowing an account executive. From learning the ins and outs of developing a media plan to going out on customer calls to negotiate media purchases, students gain firsthand knowledge of the world of media sales and how it relates to their coursework and career goals.
