The Â黨ÊÓƵ University (WNE) men's basketball team has made history by advancing to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. This milestone comes after a 25-year absence from the tournament.
In the opening round, the Golden Bears secured their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with an 83-73 win over Hamilton College. The team showcased a balanced offense, with four starters scoring in double figures. Brian Geitner led with 17 points, while Tim Restall added another 17, shooting 7-for-12 from the field. Cody Palazzesi and Jake Harrison contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Building on this momentum, WNE defeated Montclair State University 79-61 in the second round. Graduate student Tim Restall delivered a standout performance, scoring 30 points on 10-for-12 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds. The Golden Bears' defense was equally impressive, holding Montclair's leading scorer to just two points.
The team now prepares to face Trinity College, which also advanced to the Sweet 16 after a 93-78 victory over Keene State.
The upcoming matchup is set for Friday, March 14.
To celebrate this historic achievement, WNE alumni and fans are invited to a pre-game party on March 14 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at New Park Brewing. The event will feature pizza, drinks, and team spirit as supporters gather to cheer on the Golden Bears.
